Herbert shares Indian experience
Former All White coach Ricki Herbert enthralled a Friends of Football lunch in Cambridge with accounts of his recent ventures to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil and coaching in the Indian Super League.
Relaxed and 12kgs slimmer after a season in India, Herbert shared his views of trends in top level international football as well as providing fascinating insights into the progress of the Indian and Australian leagues.
Herbert was the special guest at the lunch before WaiBOP United’s ASB Premiership game against Team Wellington at Cambridge’s John Kerkhof Park.
Guests included former All Whites and Ferns, members of Friends of Football and local enthusiasts.
Answering questions from the floor, Herbert said that while he’d enjoyed working internationally, his heart was still with the game in New Zealand and he hoped to make some contribution to the development of the national sides in future.
He said he was also looking to extend the reach of his football academy which is already established in Wellington and some regional centres.
Friends of Football’s next event is a BBQ at Auckland’s revamped Newmarket Park, the site of the former home of football, on Sunday March 15.
