Former national coach thanks football for backing sight charity

Former national coach Allan Jones has thanked the football community for supporting the charity Macular Degeneration New Zealand to help combat a condition that threatens the sight of one in seven people over 50.

Jones attended the recent ISPS Handa Women’s Premiership match between WaiBOP and Northern Lights at Cambridge, a game that helped promote awareness of macular degeneration.

New Zealand Football, WaiBOP Football and Cambridge FC joined forces to promote awareness of the condition through their websites, social media and distribution of leaflets at John Kerkhof Park.

Football has been a strong supporter of MDNZ with former All Whites coach John Adshead and Viv Jones both ambassadors for the charity.

Viv Jones, the wife of Allan, has deteriorating sight caused by macular degeneration and urges everyone over 40 to take a simple test to check whether any symptoms might exist.
