All Whites legend celebrates his milestone birthday in racing style

Former All Whites and Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert has celebrated his 60th birthday in style – driving a harness racing filly around a racetrack at full tilt.

Herbert reached his milestone birthday on Saturday April 10, the same day that Tennessee Honey was due to take part in the workout races at Cambridge Raceway.

He owns the three-year-old filly with a group of friends and figured there was no better way to celebrate his birthday than to climb into the sulky for trainer Kyle Marshall. Herbert is a licensed driver for harness racing and has previously trained horses with his late father, Clive.

Tennessee Honey ran third at the workouts and Herbert’s hoping that by his next birthday, she’ll have proven herself to be a useful racer.

Herbert lives in Cambridge where he combines his passion for horse racing and football.

His youth academy is based in the town and he works closely with both Hamilton Wanderers and Cambridge football clubs.
