Wellington Phoenix aiming to draw 15,000+ in return to Auckland’s Eden Park

Wellington Phoenix are aiming to draw a crowd of at least 15,000 when they host Perth Glory at Auckland’s Eden Park on Sunday May 30.

The Hyundai A-League fixture (kick-off 3.30pm) is the second Phoenix game to be played on home soil this year after the opening of the trans-Tasman travel ‘bubble’, enabling the game to go ahead.

The Phoenix will also host Western United at Wellington’s Sky Stadium on Saturday May 22 (4pm), the first A-League game in 433 days to take place in New Zealand.

General manager David Dome said: “Our target is at least 15,000 fans attending both these pivotal matches – making each the largest A-League crowds this season – a worthwhile target that recognises what this team has done in its re-location to Australia.”

Since November last year, the Wellington Phoenix squad have based themselves in Wollongong, New South Wales, due to Covid travel restrictions between Australia and New Zealand.
