Manukau United Football Club aim to help former refugee children get into football this year with the help of a one-day cultural and football event on Saturday January 22.
The club will host a seven-a-side tournament for mixed teams at their Walter Massey Park grounds between 9am and 5pm.
Called Football for Freedom, the non-profit event aims to help children who are former refugees in Gaza.
Organisers say their event aims “to connect people together through the beautiful game of Football. We also aim to raise awareness for refugees and practical support for former refugees in Aotearoa and Palestinian people in Gaza.
“This year we will be also hosting a Palestinian Cultural festival that aims to celebrate the Palestinian food, culture and heritage.”
The event will also feature the Hungerball inflatable pitch, enabling many youngsters to have a go at playing football.
Manukau United’s Hungerball programme is part-funded by Friends of Football’s Helping Hands Fund.

Meanwhile, the day is also a great opportunity to donate your pre-loved football boots to be used by former refugee communities in Auckland.
The annual boot drive is held in partnership with the Refugees as Survivors – New Zealand group.
Please drop off your boots (all sizes) at Walter Massey Park on the day – plus any balls and equipment you wish to donate.
