A Newcastle United shirt worn and signed by record-breaking All Whites striker Chris Wood will go up for auction this week to raise money for Friends of Football’s Helping Hands fund.
The shirt, kindly donated by Wood, will be auctioned at the end of Friends of Football’s annual charity golf day at Huapai Golf Club on Thursday May 19, 2022.
While the shirt will be auctioned at the prizegiving function, we will accept bids in advance from football supporters who are interested in buying this special piece of football history. Your bid will be put forward on your behalf at the auction.

How to bid
Email Friends of Football at info@friendsoffootballnz.com by midnight on Wednesday May 18, 2022, indicating the maximum amount you are willing to bid for the shirt.
Please include your mobile phone contact in the email so we can contact you on Thursday.
The shirt is expected to go into the fundraising auction about 6pm.
How much is it likely to cost?
Signed shirts are a hot item at the moment – Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ shirt sold last week for £7.14 million ($NZ13.76 million).
Sergio Aguero’s Manchester City worn against QPR in the club’s epic play-off final is going under the hammer soon with an expected price of £1 million ($NZ1.96 million).
Chris Wood’s shirt? Well, we’re not expecting world records to be broken but the framed shirt is a special item for someone who treasures memorabilia and supports either Newcastle United or the All Whites (or both).
Wood is, after all, our country’s greatest-ever goalscorer and he could soon be going to his second FIFA World Cup finals tournament.
Where does the money go?
Friends of Football raises money at its golf day, and at other events, to support its Helping Hand fund.
Through our fund, we get behind innovative football-related projects that might otherwise ‘fall between the cracks’.
We’ve sponsored Auckland’s Special Olympics football team.
We also back a community programme in South Auckland that invites youngsters to ‘have a go’ at football in the Hungerball inflatable arena.
We’re currently looking for more worthwhile projects to support.
