The Junior Ferns will need to beat Columbia by at least a two-goal margin in Wednesday’s final pool game to stay at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
A 3-0 loss to Germany by the New Zealanders, and a scoreless draw between Mexico and Colombia, leaves the Junior Ferns at the foot of the Group B table in Costa Rica.
However, a win by a two-goal margin or better against Colombia would lift New Zealand into second place on the table, with Germany or Mexico expected to top the group, depending on the result of their match-up.
Both games will be played at the same time (11am kick-off, Wednesday NZT).

On Sunday, New Zealand lost 3-0 to Germany after conceding three second-half goals by Clara Frohlich, Sophie Weidauer (penalty) and Gia Corley.

Germany had the main share of first half possession, with 57% of the ball, and had 10 shots, with two on target, compared to New Zealand’s sole effort on goal.
By the end of the game, Germany had kept possession for 55% of the match and had 19 shots, of which six were on target.
By comparison, the Junior Ferns had six shots, two of them on target.
Despite the loss, Junior Ferns captain Kate Taylor was named Player of the Match.
