Wellington’s Sky Stadium has been voted by players as the best playing surface in the men’s A-League.

The voting, by Professional Footballers Australia (PFA), captures weekly surveys of players on pitch quality and atmosphere for every Isuzu UTE A-League fixture.

While the home of the Wellington Phoenix takes the honours for pitch quality, Adelaide’s Coopers Stadium is rated the best for atmosphere.

Wellington’s Sky Stadium rated a perfect 5/5 rating from the overall votes.

“It’s fantastic to hear that the players have voted our pitch the top in the league.”

A club record 33,297 fans packed Sky Stadium for the semi-final second leg between the Phoenix and Melbourne Victory.

“Our fans are the best in New Zealand sport,” Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome said.

“I’ll never forget the incredible buzz when Oskar Zawada scored the 99th-minute equaliser to send the semi-final to extra time. It was spine-tingling!

“And even when Sky Stadium isn’t packed, the Yellow Fever create an incredible atmosphere that lifts our players.”

Coopers Stadium scored 4.2/5 as the venue judged to have the best atmosphere.
