Central Football have re-appointed Jamie Dunning as head coach of their Women’s National League team for the 2024 season.
Dunning, who coached the team in the 2023 competition, is an A-Licence qualified coach based in the Hawke’s Bay where he’s the the technical director and head coach at Taradale AFC.

He joined Taradale in early 2023 after a spell in Australia where he coached Adelaide City (women) and Magpies Crusaders in Mackay, Queensland (men).
He has previously been head coach and junior development manager (Napier Marist FC), Men’s National League assistant coach (Hawke’s Bay United, Team Wellington), Men’s National Youth League head coach (Hawke’s Bay United) and junior development manager/technical director of the TDP program at Miramar Rangers.
Central Football have also re-appointed Donald Piper as head coach of their Girls Youth National League side. He is a long-time coach who has previously led the Women’s National League side.
In 2023, he coached the Central Football team to second place in the Girls Youth National League.
Piper is also head coach for Palmerston North United’s Lotto Central Federation League side.
Confirming the appointments, Central Football have invited players to trial for both squads.
Trials will be restricted to players from the Women’s Central League, Federation League, Regional Top Division and school first XI teams.
To be eligible for the Women’s National League trials, players must be 15 or older before September 28, 2024.
To be eligible for the Girls Youth National League trials, players must be 14 before September 21, 2024, and under 18 at January 1, 2023.
Trial information
If selected, trials for both sides will take place as follows:
- Date: Wednesday July 17, 2024
- Time: 6pm – 7.30pm (registration from 5.30pm)
- Location: Massey University, Palmerston North
Registrations close on Tuesday July 9, 2024.
Players to express interest will be notified of the outcome by Friday July 12, 2024.
Central Football say due to the high amount of expected interest, not all players who register will receive a trial.
Central Football will select the successful applicants to trial. All those who register will be advised whether they have or have not gained a trial.
