Teenage goalkeeper Joe Wallis lands two-year deal with English club West Brom

New Zealand age group international goalkeeper Joe Wallis has signed his first professional contract, joining English Championship club West Bromwich Albion.

Wallis (19) has transferred from Northern League champions Auckland City, signing a two-year deal with Albion, with the club retaining an option to extend the contract for a third year.

Wallis represented New Zealand at this year’s OFC U-19 Championship in Samoa.

He came through the junior and youth ranks at Auckland’s Western Springs before moving to Auckland City for the 2023 season.

West Bromwich Albion, the club that gave All Whites skipper Chris Wood his first professional contract when he was 17, signed three young players ahead of the UK transfer deadline.

For their Premier League 2 squad, they brought in Wallis and defender Michael Parker (from Burnley).

For their U-18 squad, they recruited Donte-German Ranger (formerly QPR and West Ham United).
