Wellington Phoenix forward Michaela Robertson has pressed pause on her professional football career.
Robertson (28) has informed the Wellington Phoenix she is taking a break and won’t return to the club for the upcoming Ninja A-League season.
She joined the Nix ahead of the 2022-23 season and went on to make 25 appearances for the club over the past two years, scoring four goals.
Three of her goals came in the last five matches of the 2023-24 campaign, finding the back of the net against Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory and Adelaide United.
“Taking a break this season has been a tough decision to make,” Robertson said. “But one I believe is right for me at this time.
“I want to express my gratitude to Wellington Phoenix for the past two seasons. I’ve been both challenged and strengthened, growing as a player and a person, and have gained far more than I could have anticipated.
“I’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible fans and supporters — the ones who fill the stands, sing their hearts out, volunteer their time, and show up no matter what. You fuel the Phoenix flames. It has been an honour playing in front of you and hearing about some of your dreams of playing for the Phoenix one day.
“I’m excited to continue supporting the team from the sidelines and look forward to standing with you all to cheer the girls on this season.”
The Wellington Phoenix have thanked Robertson for her contribution to the club over the past two seasons and said they look forward to seeing her back on a football pitch sooner rather than later.
