Onehunga Mangere United and Cambridge meet on Sunday in the first leg of their play-off series to decide which club will be promoted to next year’s Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship.
The winner of the home and away play-offs will replace Manukau United who finished bottom and without a win in the 2024 Championship.
To reach the play-offs, Onehunga Mangere United had to overhaul pacesetters Papakura City, beating their rivals in the final round to take the NRF Women’s Conference title.
United’s success was built upon a solid defence that conceded only 18 goals in the 21-round competition.
Their play-off opponents, Cambridge, had an easier run to the WaiBOP W-League title, wrapping it up long before the end of their competition, in which they finished 14 points ahead of nearest rivals Taupo.
Cambridge lost only one game in their regular season, and rattled up an impressive 65 goals, while conceding only 15.
The first leg will be hosted by Onehunga Mangere United, with the second leg to be played at Cambridge’s John Kerkhof Park on September 29.
