Northern League club Manurewa have appointed Marty Rodwell to a new role, leading player and coach development programmes.
Rodwell (45) joins the club after a successful year as director of football for Fencibles United, who have gained Northern League status with promotion from the Lotto NRFL Men’s Championship.
For Rodwell, the move to Manurewa is a return to the club for whom he played more than 200 first-team games and coached hundreds of players from juniors through to its premier team.
Before joining Fencibles in January 2024, he was head coach at Manurewa.
His new role, made possible with the support of Wiri Licensing Trust, will include overseeing the planning and implementation of player and coach development programmes in the club and in the wider community.
“Marty is currently working towards his A Licence coaching qualification and brings a wealth of experience in player development and community connections,” Manurewa said when announcing his appointment.
Farewelling Rodwell, Fencibles United told their social media followers: “When Marty joined Fencibles, we did not have our youth NZ Football TDP (Talent Development Programme) accreditation, and our summer academy was in its infancy.
“Marty has made a valuable contribution, both in terms of the support he has provided to our club programmes, and the assistance given to our football operations team.
“Marty helped guide the club through our TDP accreditation and helped grow the academy to levels where Fencibles is now a very strong youth development club.
“We would like to acknowledge and thank Marty for his dedication and expertise over his tenure at Fencibles. We would also like to take this opportunity to wish him all the best with his footballing future.”
