Wellington Phoenix midfielder Mo Al-Taay has been called up to the Iraq squad for their FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Palestine and South Korea.
Iraq will host Palestine on Friday October 11, 2024, (NZT) before visiting South Korea on the following Tuesday night.
Al-Taay (24) was included in Iraq’s squad for their September internationals against Oman and Kuwait.
In the third round of Asian qualifying, Iraq face South Korea, Jordan, Oman, Palestine and Kuwait.
His call-up means five Phoenix players will be on international duty ahead of their Isuzu UTE A-League season opener against Western United at Sky Stadium on Sunday October 20.
Tim Payne, Alex Rufer, Sam Sutton and Kosta Barbarouses have been named in the All Whites squad to play their side’s opening game in the OFC World Cup qualifier series, meeting Tahiti on October 11.
On October 14, they play an international friendly against Malaysia (October 14).
