Wellington striker Ryan Feutz has headed to the United States for a trial with USL Championship club Switchbacks FC.

Feutz (22) headed to the Colorado-based club after turning out for Western Suburbs in their final Central League fixture of the season, an 8-3 loss to champions Wellington Olympic.

Switchbacks play in the second tier of competition in the United States, one step below Major League Soccer (MLS).

Feutz had an impressive start to the Central League season, scoring 10 goals before suffering a mid-season injury.

Announcing the forward’s trip to Colorado, Suburbs’ partner Olé Football Academy said:

“He had worked incredibly hard to get himself back and was able to return for the last weekend of the season. We are excited to support him as he heads over to the United States for a trial with the Switchbacks FC of the USL Championship.

“Good luck as you represent Olé Football Academy and Western Suburbs FC with this opportunity.”

Originally from Ashburton, Feutz moved to Wellington when he was 14, becoming a residential player with the academy.

In 2019, he was part of Western Suburbs’ Central League-winning side, scoring 15 goals.

In 2021, he joined Swedish club Torslanda IK and returned to New Zealand in 2022, playing last season with Miramar Rangers.

He rejoined Suburbs for 2023.
