How to plan your footballing weekend in Auckland

posted in: News

Aucklanders football enthusiasts can squeeze in three or four games this weekend if they’re hungry to see top football in the region.

The action starts on Friday night under floodlights and includes men’s and women’s games on Sunday.

Here’s our neutral’s guide to top games in the North this weekend (May 21-23).

Friday night football

Start the weekend with Metro’s Lotto NRFL division one game against Ellerslie at Phyllis St (7.30pm).

Northern League

Saturday

It’s a shame you can’t be in two places at once so take your pick of these games:

Auckland United (2nd) play Melville United (5th) at Keith Hay Park at 3pm.

Eastern Suburbs (6th) host Auckland City (1st) at Madills Farm at 3pm.

Lotto NRFL first division

Saturday

We’re tipping the second division match-up between high-scoring Fencibles United (29 goals in eight outings) and Greenhithe Catimba (who’ve been conceding a couple of goals a game).

It’s hardly going to be a 0-0 bore draw – it kicks off at 3pm at Rosedale Park on Saturday.

Sunday

On Sunday, go back to Rosedale Park for the 3pm match between first division leaders Albany United and fourth-placed East Coast Bays.

Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier Division

On Sunday, the pick of the Auckland-based games is Auckland United’s home game against Northern Rovers at Keith Hay Park (1pm).

These two clubs are tied on 11 points as they chase leaders Western Springs. The winner of this clash will keep in touch with Springs and the other will be left playing catch-up.
