Where to catch this weekend’s football action in Auckland

posted in: News

After a round of cup football a week ago, Northern spectators will turn their attention back to league competitions this weekend.

Here’s our neutral’s guide to top games in the North this weekend (June 11-13).

Friday night football

Start the weekend with the Northern League clash between Western Springs and West Coast Rangers.

Both teams will be smarting after being knocked out of the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup last weekend and this is their chance to regain winning form.

The game’s at Seddon Fields (7.30pm).

Northern League

Saturday

Eastern Suburbs meet Auckland United at Madills Farm (3pm).

While United are in second place, Suburbs are one of five clubs in a cluster of challengers for top four spots.

A win will increase Suburbs’ hopes of making the cut for summer’s National League – a loss could be a serious setback.

Lotto NRFL first division

Saturday

We’re picking the game-of-the-round as Takapuna’s match with Manurewa at Taharoto Park (3pm).

These clubs fill third and fourth spots on the table and the winner keeps in touch with the leaders.

Lotto NRFL second division

Want goals? We’re expecting plenty as the division’s leading scorers, Fencibles United, travel to Hibiscus Coast.

The match is at Stanmore Bay (3pm).

Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier Division

On Sunday, our pick of the round is Northern Rovers’ home game against leaders Western Springs.

If runaway leaders Springs are to slip up, Rovers have as much chance as any.

The match is at McFetridge Park (1pm).
