Kale Herbert is to move back to the Wellington region to further his coaching development.

After four years as head coach of Hamilton Wanderers, Herbert has been appointed head coach for Wairarapa United’s Central League squad for the next two seasons.

Said Herbert: “After spending the last four years coaching Hamilton Wanderers in the Northern and National Leagues, I’m really excited to be making the move to the Wairarapa and joining the club!

“Having previously lived and played in Wellington, I’ve always tried to keep tabs on football in the region, and it’s been great to see Wairarapa United cement themselves in the Central League.

“After speaking with the chairman (James Taylor) there is a really promising vision for the future of the club, and I’m really looking forward to starting my next chapter at Wairarapa United.”

Herbert is also the Technical Director of the Ricki Herbert Football Academy, founded by his father in 2013.

Herbert’s involvement with the RHFA will focus on tours and national camps, as well as raising the academy’s profile in the Wellington region.

Herbert says he’ll always be grateful for the opportunity he had to develop as a senior coach with Hamilton Wanderers, and leaves the club with fantastic memories and life-long friends.

“I’ll certainly be keeping in touch with everyone, and keeping a keen eye on how the club continues to progress!”
