Kate Sheppard Cup final to be played at FMG Stadium, Hamilton

The Kate Sheppard Cup final between Hamilton Wanderers and Wellington United will be played at Hamilton’s FMG Stadium.

Kick-off was to be 2pm on Sunday March 13, 2022, and the game was to be live-streamed via Sky Sports NEXT.

The game will be played behind closed doors in line with guidelines to restrict the spread of COVID-19.

The choice of venue means it’s the first time in many years that the finals of both the NZ Football Foundation-sponsored Kate Sheppard Cup and Chatham Cup have been staged outside of Auckland, reflecting the failure of Auckland teams to reach either final.

Though the game is in Hamilton, Wanderers are not considered to be the home team at FMG Stadium, as they usually play their games at Porritt Stadium.

About the venue

THE 25,800-seater stadium is home to the Waikato Chiefs and Waikato Mitre 10 Cup teams.

It has hosted many high profile football events including games in the 2008 FIFA U-17s World Cup and was used as a group venue at the 2015 U-20 men’s FIFA World Cup.

It will also be a venue for a group game at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
