Fans of the women’s game can’t complain about the entertainment value in this season’s Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League — last weekend, the matches produced an average of more than four goals a game.
We’re expecting more goals this weekend when the neutral spectator might even get to two games in one afternoon, thanks to some generously-timed kick-offs.
Here’s our preview of games for Sunday April 10:
Sunday
Northern Rovers (2nd) v West Coast Rangers (4th)
McFetridge Park, Auckland,
1pm kick-off
Without a fixture in round one, Northern Rovers made a statement to the rest of the league by hitting title-holders Eastern Suburbs for six last weekend.
They beat the defending champions 6-1 and immediately heralded their own claims for the 2022 title.
Northern Rovers demonstrated they have quality all over the park, having five different players on the scoresheet.
Newcomers to the league, West Coast Rangers, have already shown they will be no pushovers and will want to do well in their maiden season.
Rangers lost narrowly to the reigning champs Suburbs 1-0 in their first game, and last week, they beat runners-up of last year’s competition Western Springs 1-0 in a tight match.
Who will win the battle of the Northwest? We’ll be waiting for the outcome — and more clues where the power lies this season.
Other fixtures (with current league placings):
Auckland United (3rd) v Hamilton Wanderers (7th)
Keith Hay Park, Auckland, 1pm kick-off
Western Springs (5th) v Tauranga City (8th)
Seddon Fields, Westmere, Auckland, 2:30pm
Ellerslie (1st) v Eastern Suburbs (6th)
Michaels Ave Reserve, Auckland, 3pm
