Out-of-favour All Whites get on scoresheets for their overseas clubs

Two out-of-favour All Whites strikers were among the goals for their overseas clubs at the weekend.

Max Mata (21), pictured, scored a double for Sligo Rovers in their 2-2 League of Ireland draw against bottom-placed UCD.

In the USL Championship, Elliott Collier (27) scored the winner for Texas side San Antonio FC as they beat defending champions Orange County in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference final.

Mata, who played his club football in New Zealand for Onehunga Sports, Eastern Suburbs and the Wellington Phoenix reserves, put Sligo ahead with a neat header.

With seven minutes to go, Mata scored with his second header, tying up the game 2-2.

Mata, who played one game for his country in 2019, is a club mate of current All Whites defender Nando Pijnaker.

Meanwhile, Hamilton-born Collier has started the season well for new club San Antonio after three years with the Chicago Fire.

He last played for the All Whites in 2019 and has been US-based for six years.

A graduate of the Olé Football Academy, Collier’s New Zealand clubs included Hamilton Wanderers, Waikato United and Wellington’s Island Bay United.
