Easter fixtures likely to sort Women’s Premier League into leaders and chasers

Whatever happens over Easter, a shakdown’s coming to the pecking order of teams in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League.

Five teams are currently locked on six points but the weekend’s fixtures are almost certain to split the field into leaders and chasers — unless there’s a weekend of drawn games.

Given there has not been a draw yet this season, it’s more likely we’ll see a couple of teams emerge from the pack.

Here’s how the weekend looks:

Friday

Northern Rovers (1st) v Ellerslie (2nd)
McFetridge Park, Auckland
1pm kick-off

Northern Rovers are off to a perfect start to their season with two wins from two to put them at the summit of the table but only due to a superior goal difference.

Going for their third win won’t be easy against an Ellerslie team who, like them, are scoring goals for fun.

Both teams will be hungry for the win so that they can break away from each other at the top but your guess is as good as mine when it comes to choosing a winner of this game.

Definitely, a game to watch as we can expect goals galore.

Other fixtures (with current league placings):

Friday

Auckland United (4th) v Eastern Suburbs (5th)
Keith Hay Park, Auckland, 12:30pm

Hamilton Wanderers (7th) v Western Springs (3rd)
Porritt Stadium, Hamilton, 3pm

Sunday

West Coast Rangers (6th) v Tauranga City (8th)
Fred Taylor Park, Whenuapai, 3pm

Monday

Northern Rovers v Hamilton Wanderers
Becroft Park, Auckland, 1pm
