New signing Selby scores winner to propel Rangers into WPL mid-table

posted in: News

Lorna Selby’s first goal for West Coast Rangers was enough to give her side a 1-0 win against bottom-placed Tauranga City in the Lotto NRFL’s Women’s Premier League.

Selby (24) was a new signing for Rangers this season, joining from Birkenhead United where she had been team captain.

In the competition’s only game played on Easter Sunday, she scored the winner in the 54th minute to propel Rangers into the congested midtable, leaving Tauranga still without a win since their promotion.

The goal was a just reward for Selby who the previous weekend had scored for Rangers’ reserves team, playing a full 90 minutes before coming off the bench for half an hour for the first team.

The result means Easter Monday’s only game, between Hamilton Wanderers and leaders Northern Rovers, will complete the games in hand for both teams.
