Recent signing Jaydyn Englefield is proving to be Metro FC’s talisman as he scored the only goal of the game to earn his side an important win against East Coast Bays at Phyllis Street.
The 22-year-old Englishman (main photo), who transferred from North Shore United last month, found the net in the 24th minute. Goalkeeper Jack Marshall had played a long ball to Brooklyn Heath who slipped it through for Englefield to finish.
The goal turned out to be enough for Metro to move out of the division’s relegation zone.
In eight games played, he’s the only goalscorer for Metro, having scored a penalty and two goals in open play, as the side’s only other goal this season was an own goal.
Significantly, under the Friday night floodlights, the Metro defence clinched a clean sheet, after being the division’s leakiest rearguard in the season-to-date.
The win means the division’s five lowest-ranked teams are all within a point of each other — at least, for a night — as the rest of the competition’s teams play on Saturday (May 7).
