What’s on at the weekend — our guide to the pick of the football action

With two Friday night games to choose from, football fans have plenty of choice in the Northern/WaiBOP regions this weekend.

There are full rounds of men’s and women’s Lotto NRFL fixtures while the Northern League has five games scheduled for Saturday.

Here’s our round-up of what to watch, what to do, and when, over the weekend of May 20-23.

Friday

Lotto NRFL first division

Metro host Waitemata under the lights at Phyllis Street on Friday (7.30pm kick-off).

Get your footballing weekend off to an early start with a floodlit game at North Harbour Stadium where second-placed Western Springs play mid-table West Coast Rangers (7.30pm kick-off).

Saturday

Northern League 

The match between Manukau United and Hamilton Wanderers has been postponed but five other fixtures go ahead with 3pm kick-offs.

Lotto NRFL first division

Five games in the first division on Saturday including a top-of-the-table showdown between Tauranga City and West Coast Rangers at Links Ave (3pm).

Lotto NRFL second division

A full schedule of matches in the second division includes a spicy derby between leaders Ngaruawahia United and Cambridge, while Bucklands Beach (2nd) host West Auckland (3rd).

Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League

There’s only one WPL game on Saturday — it’s between third-placed Auckland United and bottom side Tauranga City at Keith Hay Park (2pm).

Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League

Two WPL games on Sunday including a key clash between leaders Northern Rovers and reigning champions Eastern Suburbs, at McFetridge Park (1pm).
