Released Phoenix duo expected to sign for National League clubs

Two graduates from the Wellington Phoenix academy are expected to join National League clubs in time for this weekend after being released early from their contracts with the club.

Striker George Ott (20) and central defender Kurtis Mogg (21) spent the 2021-22 A-League season with the Phoenix first team in Sydney after joining the Phoenix on one-year scholarship deals.

Otta has previously played club football for Lower Hutt City and Hamilton Wanderers, while Mogg played for Lower Hutt City.

Their contracts were due to expire at the end of June but that has been brought forward a month so they don’t have to wait to return to playing football.

Neither have been offered new deals by the Phoenix, after making limited appearances for the club last season.

Ott came off the bench in two A-League matches in March after featuring in extra time in the FFA Cup quarter-final victory over Melbourne City.

Mogg made one appearance, starting the round of 32 FFA Cup match against Western United at left back.
