Metro beat Mt Albert Ponsonby 3-1 in New North Road derby

Metro came from behind to beat Mt Albert Ponsonby 3-1 in the Lotto NRFL first division’s New North Rd derby.

Playing under lights at Phyllis St, MAP went ahead after 34 minutes through Harry Streamer.

Two minutes later, the home side responded with Michael Soffe’s first goal of the season.

As half-time approach, Metro striker Jaydyn Englefield put his side ahead for the first time in the game, and the sides went into the break with Metro leading 2-1.

Englefield settled the affair when he scored from the penalty spot in the 69th minute, his seventh goal of the season and elevating him to second place in the race for the division’s Golden Boot.

Metro face the Sperm Whales on Monday in the Chatham Cup, while MAP also go again on Queen’s Birthday Monday with a second round cup tie at home to Eastern Suburbs.
