Experience pays off for West Coast Rangers as veterans lead the way

posted in: News

Age is proving no barrier for the experience within Lotto NRFL first division leaders West Coast Rangers as a 2-0 Friday night win against Metro extended their lead to nine points.

Scorers for Rangers were Allan Pearce (39) and Jamie Mason (32).

With 31 points from a possible 36, the Chad Coombes-coached side are charging away from their competition.

Under the lights at Phyllis St, the sides played out a scoreless first half.

But three minutes into the second spell, Pearce put the visitors ahead with his sixth goal of the season.

Wellington-born Pearce has played for a string of clubs in the UK and New Zealand, and achieved his only All Whites cap almost 15 years ago. He’s proving that age doesn’t matter.

Jamie Mason, another player the wrong side of 30, scored Rangers’ second in the 84th minute.

With a defence that’s conceded only five goals all season, there was no way Rangers were going to surrender a two-goal lead.
