In case you missed it: What drives Chris Wood’s World Cup dream

posted in: News

All Whites striker Chris Wood says the current national team’s drive to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals comes from knowing heroes like the 1982 and 2010 players had “done it the hard way”.

The 30-year-old goalscorer says when he went to the 2010 World Cup as a teenager, he thought: “This is fantastic, this is easy.”

But it then dawned on him how difficult it was for New Zealand sides to qualify for future World Cups.

He told Newshub’s Narelle Sindos: “Then you soon learn the downside, the hard side and suffering that’s fuelled me and every other player who has been through the heartache.”
