Striker Chris Wood: ‘This All Whites team has got a lot to come’

All Whites striker Chris Wood believes New Zealand were the dominant side in their World Cup play-off loss to Costa Rica but “the little things went their way.”

In his post-match interview, Wood said: “Some decisions went against us that I think were harsh.

“It was extremely frustrating.

“VAR was brought in to be a bit clearer.

“The referees need to trust their instincts sometimes, and it’s unfortunate they don’t but that’s life, I guess.

In terms of the team’s performance, Wood said: “I think it was outstanding. The boys put everything on the pitch — it’s all we can ask.

“This team has got a lot to come and hopefully, in the next four years, we can be back there.”
