National Volunteers Week: To all our sport’s helpers, a big thank you

posted in: Events, Recognition

It’s National Volunteer Week throughout New Zealand so it’s timely we recognise all the volunteers who keep our football clubs running.

To all the volunteers who enable tens of thousands of our players, of all ages, to enjoy their sport, a big thanks!

We appreciate your efforts 52 weeks a year … but this week we join with sports and community organisations everywhere to recognise those who give their time freely to help others.

The Minister for the Community and Volunteer Sector, Priyanca Radhakrishnan, has publicly thanked all volunteers who contribute so much to their communities.

She says almost 50% of New Zealanders volunteer directly in our communities or with volunteer organisations.

“Volunteering has an immense power for bringing people together. National volunteer week 2022 is a time for us to come together and recognise the power of volunteering and those who continue to give up their time, expertise and effort to help others.

“He wā whaiwhakāro, he wā moemoeā, he wā pīatāta.

“It is time to reflect, it’s time to dream big and it’s time to shine.”

Minister Radhakrishnan thanks all volunteers in this special message for National Volunteer Week:
