All White Marco Rojas is reportedly in negotiations to sign with Chilean Premera Division club Colo-Colo, based in Santiago.
The 30-year-old Hamilton-born winger is understood to be out of contract at A-League club Melbourne Victory and has previously stated his interest in playing in Chile, the birth country of his father.
South American reports claim Rojas is about to be named as the club’s second off-season signing by head coach Gustavo Quinteros, following the loan signing of Argentine midfielder Agustín Bouzat from Buenos Aires club Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield.
Football writer Patrick Echague reported:
“Colo-Colo has everything ready to hit the transfer market in the next few hours. Marco Rojas, the “Chilean Messi” from the other side of the world, is close to being Cacique’s second reinforcement for the second half of the 2022 season.”
Rojas has played more than 42 full internationals for New Zealand, after playing his youth football for Hamilton Wanderers.
He’s since had professional stints with the Wellington Phoenix, Melbourne Victory (three times), VfB Stuttgart, SC Heerenveen and SønderjyskE.
