All Whites Max Mata and Nando Pijnaker have had eventful debuts in European football while helping their Sligo Rovers side to a 2-1 win against Welsh club Bala Town.
Striker Mata scored the winner for League of Ireland club Rovers while Pinjaker was sent off with 10 minutes to go, leaving Rovers clinging to their lead.
The game was the first of two legs in the qualifying round of the Europa Conference League and the clubs play the reverse fixture next Friday (NZT).
The winner goes through to meet Scottish club Motherwell in the next round.
Mata and Pijnaker both joined Rovers this season.
