Papatoetoe stretch lead in NRF Men’s Championship with 4-2 win against Te Atatu

Papatoetoe have stretched their lead to six points in the NRF Men’s Championship after beating fourth-placed Te Atatu 4-2 at Murdoch Park.

With Central United losing the night before to Papakura City, Papatoetoe knew a win would increase the gap to their nearest rivals.

But Te Atatu took the lead in the 35th minute through Rhys Caples to give the visitors a 1-0 at half-time.

After the break, Papatoetoe scored twice, through Ariel Morales and then Louis Corkill to take the lead for the first time in the match.

Within a few minutes, Te Atatu levelled when Joel Willetts found the net.

Papatoetoe finished the stronger of the sides, scoring through Christopher Groen and Sandip Singh in the last 10 minutes of the match.
