Late goal rescues valuable point for Albany in first division draw with Ellerslie

posted in: News

A late goal by substitute James Chamberlain-Barlow rescued a point for Albany United in their 2-2 draw with Ellerslie at Rosedale Park.

The point could prove useful at the end of the season as it keeps Albany within a three-point reach of Ellerslie as both sides try to clear the bottom end of the Lotto NRFL first division.

Ellerslie struck first with an 18th-minute goal by Johnleo Caselli.

The Ponies took that lead into half-time.

Albany levelled on the hour when Thomas Davis found the net.

But Ellerslie regained the lead a few minutes later when Alex Clark made it 2-1.

As time started to run out, Chamberlain-Barlow, a second-half sub, came to Albany’s rescue, grabbing the equaliser with only four minutes left.
