Papatoetoe regain upper hand in title race with Friday night win at Ranui Swanson.

Papatoetoe have regained ascendancy in the battle for NRF Men’s Championship title honours.

In a Friday night game under lights at Starling Park, they beat Ranui Swanson 3-1 to go six points clear of nearest rivals Central United.

Though the teams chasing Papatoetoe have games in hand, Papatoetoe’s +24 goal difference and points in the bank put them in a strong position.

Their 10th win of the season was sparked by a first-half performance which saw them lead 2-0 at half-time.

Louis Corkill had opened the scoring in the 16th minute and Ash Gower-Rudman doubled their lead just before the break.

The lead was stretched to 3-0 in the 82nd minute when Ahmad Alshamsi found the net.

Daniel Faure scored a consolation goal for the home side with two minutes left.

Papatoetoe supporters now have the luxury of watching Saturday’s results, knowing their rivals can ill afford to slip up.
