Much-travelled striker Sanni Issa will play against former club Auckland City when his Fijian club Rewa meet the Navy Blues in August’s OFC Champions League tournament.

Auckland City play Rewa on Monday August 8 in the second of their three pool games (12pm kick-off) at Ngahue Reserve, Auckland.

Issa (30) is playing for his third Fijian club — he previously played for Lautoka and Ba — and he won the tournament’s Golden Boot with Ba in 2012-13, netting nine goals.

The Nigerian-born striker played for Auckland City in 2014-15, the first of a number of New Zealand clubs he’s turned out for.

Others include Mangere United, WaiBOP United, Lynn Avon United, Manukau United, Waitakere United, Coastal Spirit, Birkenhead United and Christchurch United.

Issa was due to join the Rewa squad just before their tournament opener against Cook Islands side Nikao Sokattak on Friday August 5.

Rewa coach Marika Rodu told the OFC website:

“With a player like Sanni Issa in the team, it’s a big boost for us.

“I have played against him before so I know what he is capable of and am looking forward to playing with him.

“He has real speed, is good one v one and can take on defenders.

“But most of all is his finishing, he’s just too good.”
