Auckland City to face Solomon Islands club in Sunday’s tournament semi-final

posted in: News

Auckland City have confirmed their semi-final spot at the OFC Champions League tournament and will meet Solomon Islands club Central Coast.

The semi-final will start at 2.30pm at Ngahue Reserve, Stonefields, on Sunday August 14.

Entry to the game is free and it will follow the first semi-final between Tahiti’s AS Vènus and Hienghène Sport, the New Caledonia Super League champions.

The tournament final will be played at 2pm on Wednesday August 17, deciding which club will represent the OFC region at the FIFA Club World Cup in China.

Auckland City completed their pool games on Thursday (August 11) with a 4-1 win against Nikao Sokattak, from the Cook Islands.

Nikao Sokattak took a surprise lead when Stephen Willis scored in the 39th minute.

However, City’s Gerard Garriga hit back with a double, scoring in the 40th and 51st minutes, to give the Navy Blues the lead.

Joe Lee scored in the 55th minute and Matt Ellis made sure of the win with City’s fourth goal after 65 minutes.
