Shaker scores four to keep Papatoetoe six points ahead in NRF Men’s Championship

Striker Iwa Shaker scored four goals as NRF Men’s Championship leaders Papatoetoe easily beat lowly Uni-Mount Bohemian 4-1 at Murdoch Park.

Shaker found the net in the 37th minute to give Papatoetoe a 1-0 lead at half-time.

In the second spell, he struck three goals in an eight-minute burst, effectively ending the game as a contest.

Uni-Mount got a late consolation when Ryan McLernon scored from the penalty spot.

The win, watched by past and present players at Papatoetoe’s annual ‘Old Boys and Girls Day’, ensures Papatoetoe have a six-point buffer over their nearest rivals.

Meanwhile, 10-man Central United beat South Auckland Rangers 1-0 in a feisty game at Rongomai Park.

Seven players were booked by referee Glen Lochrie — four from Rangers and three from Central — and United’s Alex McGregor was given a straight red in the 45th minute for venting his spleen at the official.

Rangers coach Geoff Cooper also went into the book for showing dissent.

Despite playing the second half with 10 men, Central found a winning goal through Brandon James in the 78th minute.

It keeps Central in second place, six points behind Papatoetoe but with two games in hand.
