Title-winners end season with 3-0 win at relegated Tauranga City

Champions Northern Rovers have beaten relegated Tauranga City 3-0 in their Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League match at Links Ave.

The sides met for their final games of the season in the competition, and for Rovers it was their last outing before next Sunday’s Kate Sheppard Cup final against Auckland United.

The champions had few problems returning with the three points, running up their three goals in a five-minute burst of first-half activity.

Kate McConnell put Rovers ahead in the 33rd minute.

Chelsea Elliott added the team’s second goal in the 36th minute before Michaela Foster extended the lead to 3-0 in the 38th minute.

Coach Benjamin Bate gave Foster and strikers Danielle Canham and Leanna Ryan a rest, subbing them off in the second half, and using the chance to introduce young players off the bench.

Tauranga return to the WaiBOP W-League next season to regroup after struggling since winning promotion to the WPL this year.
