Ferns defender Meikayla Moore could miss key match after copping red card

Football Fern Meikayla Moore could miss her Glasgow City’s crucial derby with Celtic after being sent off in her latest Scottish Women’s Premier League game.

Moore (26) was dismissed when Glasgow City were leading Glasgow Girls 3-0 in their midweek match and she now faces suspension.

Her side faces Glasgow Girls in a cup match this weekend (October 24 NZT) but their next SWPL is a top-of-the-table fixture against local rivals Celtic on October 30.

It is not clear yet whether any suspension will be served in the cup fixture or whether she’ll be unavailable for the home match against Celtic on October 30.

The circumstances of Moore’s sending off caused confusion as it followed a lengthy delay between the foul and her eventual red card.

Moore had fouled a forward to deprive her of a goalscoring opportunity, and the referee awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. He initially showed Moore a yellow card.

Members of the Glasgow Girls team remonstrated with the referee, and he consulted his assistant. After further consideration, the referee produced a red card.

Despite going down to 10 players, City won the match 5-0.

The top of the table is tight with three teams unbeaten.
