Phoenix ‘close to confirming’ first women’s A-League game for Auckland

posted in: Events, News

The Wellington Phoenix say they are “close to confirming” their first-ever women’s A-League fixture to be played in Auckland.

The club is working towards having their round 15 match against Sydney FC played in Auckland on the weekend of February 25-26, 2023.

This information is included in the club’s media statement revealing two men’s A-League games will be staged at Auckland’s Eden Park in March and April next year.

The Phoenix start their second season of women’s A-League football in November, having played their first season in the competition while based in Australia.

A match against Sydney FC would pit Ferns striker Paige Satchell, now with the Phoenix, against her old club.

The fixture would also provide an opportunity for Football Ferns full-back Anna Green to turn out for Sydney, who she signed with for the new season.
