Midfielder Betsy Hassett is relishing being part of the Wellington Phoenix women’s A-League campaign as the team prepares for its November 20 season opener.
The Football Fern will be playing for a New Zealand-based club for the first time in 14 years after building her career at clubs such as Manchester City (UK), Werder Bremen (Germany), Ajax (Netherlands) and Stjarnan (Iceland) after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 2012.
She says being able to play for a professional club in her own country is a “dream come true” and will help her efforts to be a key member of the Ferns for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
