Phoenix skipper sad to miss women’s A-League season opener

posted in: News

Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper and captain Lily Alfeld says she’s heartbroken she’ll miss her team’s A-League season opener against Melbourne City.

The Nix host City on Sunday November 20 at Sky Stadium, Wellington, in a game the club hopes will draw 10,000 supporters.

But Alfeld will miss the match as she recovers from surgery on her left knee.

“I’ve torn the meniscus in my left knee,” she says.

However, the skipper says she remains excited about the new season and the support her team is attracting as they plan for their second A-League campaign and being able to play at home.
