Phoenix players take to the streets to help build record-breaking support

posted in: News

The Wellington Phoenix players aren’t just hoping for a record crowd at Sunday’s history-making women’s A-League game — they’ve taken their campaign to the streets.

The squad have been boosting their profile in the capital with autograph-signing sessions, promotional visits and even clambering onto public transport to urge Wellingtonians to get behind the ‘Shenix’.

Phoenix defender Kate Taylor says a five-figure record crowd would add to an already special occasion on Sunday.

“I don’t think people quite understand; that’s our aim and I think if we can do it, it would be a shock for people,” she told 1News.
