Rovers to hold post-season review after final National League match at Auckland United

Napier City Rovers coaching and playing staff will hold a post-season review after they wind up their Men’s National League season against Auckland United on Saturday.

Coach Bill Robertson says his side heads to Auckland in search of a strong finish to the nine-match competition schedule.

“We feel like we are a bit short of where we potentially could be in terms of points,” he told Hawkes Bay Today‘s Neil Reid.

Robertson said the review would identify how they could be more successful next year, and the review would include:

  • How they could travel to away games in ways that left players more capable of better performance.
  • Improving game management at crucial times, to capitalise on sustained dominance and not dropping off defensive intensity.

“We qualified (for the National League) this year and that is obviously the goal next year, but also continue to improve and challenge for major titles. It is not going to be easy, but that will be the message,” he said.

Robertson says he expects most of the 2022 squad to return next year, and the players will have a break till January.

The Central League — and the campaign to qualify for next year’s National League — gets underway in March.
