Former Fern striker Katie Rood grabs a double for Hearts in Scottish WPL

posted in: News

Former Football Fern Katie Rood has shown her class with two well-taken goals for Hearts in their 5-1 win against Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

Leading 2-0 in the 68th minute, Rood (30) added Hearts’ third goal with a well-placed shot from outside the penalty area.

She added her side’s fifth goal, working a neat one-two play and then finishing with a deft chip into the net.

The goals helped keep Hearts in fourth position on the SWPL table, behind Meykeila Moore’s Glasgow City (who lead the competition) and Olivia Chance’s Celtic (third).

During her career, which began with North Force and Glenfield Rovers, Rood has played for Lincoln City, Bristol City, Lewes and Southampton (all England), Juventus (Italy) and joined Hearts this year.

She has played 15 full internationals for New Zealand, scoring five goals.
