Only five men’s teams and two women’s teams got through the first day of competition without dropping points in their pool games at the National U-17 Youth tournaments in Auckland.

In the men’s draw, Auckland United and Cashmere Technical won both their pool games while three teams in Group D — hosts Western Springs, East Coast Bays and Nomads United — all take perfect records into Friday’s second day.

In the women’s competition, Northern Rovers and Auckland United head their groups having had perfect starts on day one.

Western Springs are hosting the annual event for the fourth time.
