FIFA dismiss French protest about decision by New Zealand referee

FIFA have dismissed the formal complaint by France about the decision made by New Zealand referee Matt Conger to disallow what they claim was a fair goal against Tunisia.

France lost Thursday’s FIFA World Cup match 1-0 to Tunisia but still qualified for the round of 16 after heading Group D.

“We are writing a complaint after Antoine Griezmann’s goal was, in our opinion, wrongly disallowed,” the French Football Federation said in a statement.

Griezmann scored eight minutes into stoppage time but Conger ruled offside after he consulted the VAR.

After considering the French protest, FIFA released the following statement:” The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has dismissed the protest submitted by the French Football Association in relation to the Tunisia v. France FIFA World Cup match played on 30 November.”
