Record likely as more than 10,000 expected for Ferns game against United States

Organisers expect more than 10,000 fans at Wellington’s Sky Stadium for Wednesday’s friendly international between New Zealand and the world champion United States.

It would set a new record for a Football Ferns game in New Zealand, beating the crowd of 7,236 who watched the game against Japan on June 10, 2018, also played at Sky Stadium.

Sky Stadium chief executive Shane Harmon told Stuff:

“To have the best team in the world in Wellington, it’s a great event to be at.”

New Zealand Football chief executive Andrew Pragnell said:

“I think it’s an incredible offering — a fantastic team with a great global presence, affordable prices and a really good accessible kick-off time for everyone.

“Certainly, I would expect that we would break the record for a senior women’s international match (in New Zealand) and for the Ferns playing at home.”

Good weather is expected for the game, and the Ferns were continuing to promote the event with a ‘meet and greet’ session at the Wellington waterfront on Tuesday afternoon.
